On our way south out of Lucerne Valley, Cj and I picked up a hitchhiker. His quest was to reach Joshua Tree, which is an area that we have history with and were in the process of returning to. CJ and I had just finally spanged (that is, panhandled) enough money to get us there. We had about 50 some miles to go, I think.
The hitchhiker, he introduced himself as Tim. He seemed like a pretty sane guy. He was tan with sun-bleached blond hair and he turned out to have pretty good temperament.
20 years old with a backpack and wanderlust.
So we invited him to kick it with us for the night to drink in my Chevy 20 in a dusty dirt lot behind
